I need to tell you about my friend Ann. It’s entirely possible that Ann hates my guts (I may be her most anal-retentive client), but I consider her an amazing asset and hope that someday I can repay her for all the help she’s given me. There is no one else that I would trust to do what I trust her to do.
Ann Hsieh is the owner/operator of a copy shop called “Jheng Jin Copy” (????). It’s located at 478 Henan Road (Section 2), Taichung City, Taiwan (????????478?), and it’s the only place I will ever go to get anything printed. Their quality is out of this world and Ann’s dedication to both her craft and her clients is unparalleled.
I met Ann back in 2009 through a mutual friend. At the time, I wanted to get some cards printed, so I had something to hand people who might be looking for private English lessons. In fact, now is a good time to mention to every expat in Taichung: if you don’t have a card to hand people, I seriously don’t know what you are doing. There’s a reason that foreigners here have a reputation for being lazy aimless losers with no ambition, and that reason is that it’s frequently an accurate assessment.
A box of 200 business cards costs $360NT ($12US) – one can choose from two matte sides, one gloss side and one matte side, or two matte sides with the front side using raised glossy ink (the option I always go for). Let me reiterate the price – cards cost $1.8NT (6¢US) each. Even if you’re just using them with your name, phone number, email address, and the words “Private English Lessons” in English/Chinese… a private English lesson should bring you $1000NT ($32US) per hour.
In other words, taking a shot, passing out 200 cards to students without any sale – just, “This is my contact information” – you should have one of them interested in taking a lesson. At this price, the cards should more-than-pay for themselves. Like I said before, if you don’t have cards, I just don’t understand what you’re doing with yourself, here. Anyway.
I’ve had Jheng Jin Copy do everything from cards to flyers to posters; their quality is amazing and their prices are beyond competitive. I got 500 sheets of standard-size 8.5″x11″ glossy paper printed and cut in half (creating 1000 4.25″x5.5″ flyers) for $900NT ($30US). Again…price-per-flyer comes out to a whopping $.9NT (3¢US). For what you get for the money, it’s hard to not feel like you’re committing some sort of legal robbery. Got to make sure you have those color copies ready to wow the people!
This is beyond the fact that Ann will sit down with you, work out your design with you, and make sure it’s exactly what you want it to be. There’s really no other service like it. Her English is fantastic and her skills are even more impressive. I cannot recommend Ann and Jheng Jin Copy highly enough. If you need something printed in Taichung, there’s nowhere else you should be going.
